なんといってもアイルランドの人たちは酒に目がない。「アイルランド人が発明した最大の世界的な輸出産物は、アイリッシュパブである」というジョークさえある。
そんなアイリッシュPUBにおいては、エールやウイスキーだけでなく、音楽が欠かせない。なかでも酒に関する曲が多いのも特徴だ。今回はその中から絶対に盛り上がる４曲を紹介する
目次
１．「ウィスキー・イン・ザ・ジャー / Whiskey in the Jar」
この曲といえば、もうアイルランドでは別格の位置にある、シン・リジーのバージョンだ。リーダーのフィルノリットはダブリンの銅像にもなってる。元歌は１７世紀のものだが、最初の特徴的なギターのイントロから完全にロック調になっている。
歌詞はどうしょうもないもので、
峠でファレルという隊長を脅して金を奪って、馴染みの女（元歌はジェニーだが、シン・リジーではモーリー）のところへしけこんだところ、実は女はファレルとつるんでおり、今はしがない刑務所暮らし、、、
みんな酒が俺に悪さをさせたのだ、こんな俺を殴ってくれ
という歌だ。
ファレルキャプテンといと、イングランドラグビーのオーウェンファレルの不敵笑いの悪役顔を思いだしてしまう。

こちらも酒飲みの歌である。放浪人で酒浸りの主人公は。放浪先で金持ちになり、故郷に戻ってくる。馴染みの女将に自慢ししたり、両親にも素直にあやまって、「もう放蕩はやめだと」自分に言い聞かせる。
でも、私としては「少し立つと悪い癖がまた戻ってくるのでは」と思うのだが・・

アイルランドの応援歌で、サッカーの試合などでも歌われてるようだ。なぜかは調べがついていないが、不思議なことに同志社大学の応援歌にも同じ節（メロディー）が使われている
（調子の良い曲なので、訳も七五調にしてみました。） High upon the gallows tree swung the noble-hearted three. この曲がかかればみんな飛び上がり、思わず踊りだしてししまう。
歌詞の内容はたわいないもので、ジェニーとアルバートのお話。
歌う人によってダブリンのところは、ベルファストだったりする。（例えば、ヴァンモリソンのバージョンではもちろんベルファスト。）
